Best campsite in Cumbria, we return every May and sometimes more than once. Great location, friendly and gorgeous ice creams. Simple facilities but that is how we like it. ...proper camping. See you in May...
Great little campsite, facilities on site were well maintained and clean, it's situated in the middle of loads of easily accessible walking routes with lakes and waterfalls nearby.
The only negatives are that it's a bit uneven so you may end up on a slant or on the flatter pitch next to a noisy public car park.
The hoard of kids doing their Duke of Edinburgh awards almost out numbered the mosquito and midge numbers. They had zero respect for space and noise while blocking the door to our tent after removing our ground spikes and pitching up on 3 sides of our tent. While we don't discourage kids from getting into he outdoors and learning field craft, they also need to be aware of others. This is the only reason I wouldn't return and the missing star on the review.
Very good little campsite. Great location between two lakes. Decent and well-kept bathroom facilities. The only downside is the inability to drive the car onto the pitch. You have to leave the car on the other side of the stream and move all the tent belongings over the bridge to the right camp field. Generally, this is not a big problem, so I highly recommend it, especially since the beautiful surroundings make all the shortcomings go into oblivion.
Just got back from an amazing weekend in Buttermere … what a lovely campsite!! Facilities were absolutely immaculate and the staff in the tearoom were so pleasant! Will certainly be returning here! Thank you for a great stay!
Picturesque and perfect stay yurts looked a tiny bit tired but the beds were comfortable and the log burner was great. Outside kitchen area a great addition to the stay. Easy check in service and a nice breakfast from the tea room just 5 mins up the road. Would definitely stay again
An absolute stunning place to be, where you are surrounded by mountains and the sounds of waterfalls, lakes and sheep nearby. We stayed in 1 of the yurts which my husband got for both of our birthdays and anniversary present, we had a nice little kitchen area a couple of feet away from the yurt and the eco toilet was in the same enclosed area also, otherwise you will have to walk 200 meters away to the "normal" toilets and showers. Inside the yurt you had a lovely cosy bed and a sofa bed for an extra 2 people, a nice cosy fire place with kindle and firewood included. There is also a USB solar charger with 2 USB ports. It's a lovely place to stay especially if you get a good dry few days.
